Is it realy  the end for the older garmin models when it comes to map updates?

A partial YES, garmin only wants to sell new models and they stopped the support for the older models. I said a partial YES,  because there is something happening in the world of  the mapmakers.

In the year 2004 Steve Coast started with a project to make mapdata available for the public. This project is called Openstreetmap. A huge team of volunteers is working on the database to get is as complete as possible. Thansk to donations of Automotive Navigation Data, US Census TIGER and others, the database made a big leap forward.

This databse motivated a lot of other people to generate maps based on this database. One of the biggest collections of maps I’ve found on the internet is the Cloudmade collection.

Het gebruikte symbool voor viapunten in routes in MapSource is de laatste tijd nogal eens veranderd. In versie 6.13.7 waren het zwarte blokjes, in 6.14.1 t/m 6.15.4 blauwe vlaggetjes en in 6.15.6 en 6.15.7 zijn het zwarte vlaggetjes.

Het gebruikte symbool wordt opgeslagen in het GDB- of GPX-bestand, dus als je een route gemaakt met bijv. 6.15.4 opent in 6.15.6 of 6.13.7 zie je blauwe vlaggetjes. De zwarte vlaggetjes hebben dezelfde symboolcode als de zwarte blokjes in 6.13.7 en lager, maar het bijbehorende symbool is vanaf 6.14.1 veranderd in het zwarte vlaggetje. Bij routes gemaakt in 6.13.7 kreeg je dus vanaf 6.14.1 de zwarte vlaggetjes te zien.

In een GPX-bestand kun je zien welk symbool gebruikt is. Bij 6.14.1 t/m 6.15.4 is dit een blauwe vlag, in oudere en nieuwere versies is dit zwart blokje.

Je kunt dit in een teksteditor met de zoek- en vervangfunctie eenvoudig wijzigen in iets anders.

Het standaard gebruikte symbool voor viapunten is niet wijzigen bij de instellingen van MapSource. Toch is daar een oplossing voor.

Met wat truukjes is de weergave aan te passen. Hier kun je een aangepaste MapSourceNLD.dll voor MapSource 6.15.7 downloaden, waarin het zwarte vlaggetje vervangen is door het aloude zwarte blokje:

Just run the installer again and choose uninstall.
